Safety Day

On May 28 we learned all about safety. Three very important community service workers came to talk about different ways that we can be safe. A nurse taught us how we can keep ourselves healthy. A firefighter explained about some ways to play safely with fireworks this Hanabi season. And a police officer told us all about stranger danger. Thank you all for kindly donating your time. We learned a lot! Safety Day was also a good day to practice our earthquake drills. What should we do in the case of an earthquake? Our students know!

Mother’s Day

On May 12 our mummies joined us for some Mother’s Day activities. The students enjoyed doing a special craft together with their mummies. Then, the mummies got to take a break while their children served them afternoon tea and performed “Do Re Mi”. Finally, the students presented their mummies with cards that they had made earlier in the day, and we all sang some songs together. It was a lovely afternoon! Thanks for coming, Mummies!

Children’s Day.

Here at ESIK we like to celebrate Japanese traditions, as well as traditions from our homelands. On May 6 we celebrated Children’s Day. Our art teacher, Miss Eiko taught the students how to make kabuto from newspaper. We had fun making and wearing them! We enjoyed a yummy sushi lunch, and later we took a walk to the park to view the beautiful koi no bori.

ESIK Picnic.

On April 26, we had our annual picnic. Being so close to the beginning of the year, this is a good time for us to welcome new students and parents. It is also a time for parents to get to know their children’s new teachers. And most of all it is a time to socialize and enjoys ourselves! After a very long winter, we were lucky enough to have a beautiful, warm and sunny day. We ate, we sang songs, we played games, and we ended the day with a 3-legged race. Thank you to everyone who came. And a special thank you to the parents for providing a delicious lunch, and for helping to make our day so much fun. It was a great day!

Christmas 2009

On December 14, we had our Christmas Party at ESIK. The students had been practicing their Christmas Carols so hard, and they sang them for their mummies at the party. We enjoyed a delicious lunch that was kindly provided by the mummies. We made cute little snowmen from paper and beads. And finally we got a visit from Santa! He read us a story and gave everyone presents! Thanks, Santa! And thank you, Mummies, for helping to make our Christmas party special

100th Day of School

On October 28, we celebrated our 100th day of school. We dressed up as 100 year old people and had a good laugh at each other! Everyone brought 100 little snacks and we filled our goody bags with them. We also each brought 100 buttons, which we used to make a beautiful turtle shell. Thank to everyone for helping to make our 100th day of school special!

Halloween

Halloween at ESIK was fun! There were so many different costumes, from Disney princesses to Medama Oyaji! The students got creative and made their own Trick or Treat bags. Then the mummies (who were also all dressed up!) provided a great lunch for us all. After lunch we went Trick or Treating and scored lots of yummy treats! Then it was time to break open the pinata, and collect even more candy! Finally, the students, with the help of their mummies, got creative once more and decorated cupcakes.
Thank you to all the mummies for your participation. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Firestation Trip

The Maple and Mushroom classes attended the annual fire station trip. We had a great time hanging out with the firemen, trying out their clothes, and inspecting their equipment. See you next year Meguro Station! Be safe!

Dress Up Day

Thanks to everyone who participated in Dress Up Day! The students had so much fun getting all dressed up. They wore yukata, jimbei, party dresses, and even princess dresses! Everyone looked great!

Tanabata Wishes

At ESIK we have a lot of fun celebrating international as well as Japanese traditions. One such holiday that we took part in last term is Tanabata. During this day the students decorated a beautiful Tanabata tree for our school, and added to the enormous collections in Rishinomori park.

The paper used to decorate these trees is not only meant to be beautiful. Each piece carries the wishes or will of the person written on the back. Fortunately, our celebration fell on a very windy day, and with luck all of our wishes blew away to find us again one day!
